Harry Reid: Race-Baiter Extraordinaire

This would be funny if it wasn’t so blatantly wrong and serious.  Actually, I take that back.  It’s NEVER funny to play the “race card”.  Alas, Harry “The war is lost” Reid does it again.  On the Republicans opposing the “public option” in healthcare:

If you think you’ve heard these same excuses before, you’re right,” Reid said. “When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said, ‘Slow down, it’s too early, things aren’t bad enough.’”

WRONG, Harry!  It was the Democrat Party who opposed the abolition of slavery:

The Southern Democrats endorsed slavery, while the Republicans denounced it. The Northern Democrats said democracy required the people to decide on slavery locally. The Constitutional Union Party said the survival of the Union was at stake and everything else should be compromised.

Although the bill was supported by a majority of both parties, it was Democrats in key positions that opposed the legislation.

The bill was reported out of the Judiciary Committee in November 1963, and referred to the Rules Committee, whose chairman, Howard W. Smith, a Democrat and avid segregationist from Virginia, indicated his intention to keep the bill bottled up indefinitely. It was at this point that President Kennedy was assassinated. The new president, Lyndon Johnson, utilized his experience in legislative politics and the bully pulpit he wielded as president in support of the bill.

On June 10, 1964, Robert Byrd, the Democratic Senator from West Virginia (and a member of the KKK, I might add), delivered a long-winded speech during a filibuster — 14 hours, 13 minutes - opposing the legislation.  Albert Gore, Sr. (D-TN) also opposed the legislation.

Harry Reid should be forced to apologize for this blatant and outrageous lie, and for playing the race card on a total non-race issue.  If he doesn’t, he and all those who support him should be forced out.

It’s time for this demagoguery to stop.

Government Should Fear the People

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.  — Thomas Jefferson

There’s too much of the former and not enough of the latter.  But, having seen the pictures from the 9/12 rally in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, I’m hoping that the people are beginning to no longer fear the government.  I have hope that the people are beginning to awaken to the enormous stranglehold the government has on us.  “The Fed” is just too big.  And if Obamacare passes, it’ll just be that much bigger.

This morning, I heard a quote from Obama that sent a chill down my spine.

You know, I intend to be president for a while and once this bill passes, I own it.

How long, Obama?  How long do you intend to be president?  I’m hoping that the people of this great country only plan on giving you three more years.  I truly hope you’re voted out in 2012.  Frankly, I don’t think we can survive your ineptitude for even that long.

I just pray that Obama will change and become the President we all hope him to be, and not the one he’s becoming.

(See what I did there?)

Wilson to Obama: “You Lie!”

Rep. Joe Wilson during the President's speech last night.
Rep. Joe Wilson during the President's speech last night.

Rep. Joe Wilson yelled “You lie!” during the President’s speech last night.

I didn’t watch the Dear Leader’s speech to Congress and the American people last night, but boy I heard about it this morning.  Representative Joe Wilson (R — South Carolina) yelled “You lie!” to the President last night after Obama’s statement that those who were saying the healthcare bill would cover illegals were wrong.  (Dare I say he was calling them “liars”?)

I’m sorry, but I can’t condone this act by Joe Wilson.  Sure, I agree that Obama was lying, as he has been ever since he got in office.  But to heckle the President while he’s making a televised speech is just disrespectful of the office.  I don’t care who it is — that is something you don’t do.  I didn’t like it when Cindy Sheehan and all the idiot liberals were doing it to President Bush, and I don’t like it now.  It’s not the proper place or the time for that.  He is a representative of the people of South Carolina and the Republican Party.  This action reflects poorly on the people back home.  There is a reason they have a time slot for the opposition’s response after the speech — and that is to rebut what you believe is wrong about what was said by the President.

Now Rep. Wilson did call and apologize, and I applaud him for that.  It takes humility to realize when you’re wrong.  That being said, I happen to agree with Rep. Wilson.  Obama has lied and lied to the American people about his true intentions, and what he hopes to achieve.  You only have to look at the people he surrounds himself with to know that.  William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Van Jones, Cass Sunstein.  He has had to distance himself from every one of these (except the last, but it’s coming…)

I just hope the Republican Party realizes they’re going to have to be smarter than usual when rebutting this president.  Unfortunately he has a rabid following of people who will believe anything he says and will not research things on their own.  They are going to have to rise above the usual political rhetoric and behave more professionally than the liberals did during the Bush  Administration.  That is the only way they can rebuild the party and get people (including me) to support them again.  And they’re going to have to stick to their core beliefs.  Otherwise, people like me will be voting for a third party from here on out.

UPDATE:  Here’s a reminder of what the Democrats did during Bush’s State of the Union Speech in 2005.  Disrespectful?  Yeah.

California Representative Praises Castro

Diane Watson just loves Fidel Castro.
Diane Watson just loves Fidel Castro.

Diane Watson just loves Fidel Castro.

Representative Diane Watson (D — California) gives me the heeby-jeebies.  Here’s why:

It was just mentioned to me by our esteemed speaker, “Did anyone say anything about the Cuban health system?”

And lemme tell ya, before you say “Oh, it’s a commu–”, you need to go down there and see what Fidel Castro put in place. And I want you to know, now, you can think whatever you want to about Fidel Castro, but he was one of the brightest leaders I have ever met. [APPLAUSE]

And you know, the Cuban revolution that kicked out the wealthy, Che Guevara did that, and then, after they took over, they went out among the population to find someone who could lead this new nation, and they found…well, just leave it there (laughs), an attorney by the name of Fidel Castro…

This is from a “town hall” she held in her district.  Yes, she’s praising Fidel Castro.  But she is a little confused on her history.  Che Guevara did not “kick out the wealthy”.  That was actually Castro.  From Biography:

Castro was released in 1955 under an amnesty deal with the Batista government. He went to Mexico, where he met Ernesto “Che” Guevara. There he devised a new strategy to overthrow the Batista régime based on guerrilla warfare. Guevara believed that the plight of Latin America’s poor could be rectified only through violent revolution. He joined Castro’s group and became an important confidante, shaping Castro’s political beliefs.…

Fidel Castro was able to capitalize on the incident to consolidate his power and further promote his agenda. On May 1 [1961], Castro announced an end to democratic elections in Cuba and denounced American imperialism. Then at year’s end, Castro declared himself a Marxist-Leninist and announced the Cuban government was adopting communist economic and political policies. On February 7, 1962, the United States imposed a full economic embargo on Cuba, a policy that continues to this day.

Anyone who calls Fidel Castro one of the “brightest” leaders needs to be expatriated to Cuba.  They need to be forced to live under that system to see just how “great” it is.  If it IS so great for the common Cuban, then why have hundreds — if not thousands — risked their lives on makeshift rafts to come to America?  Why are they still doing so?

If that is the politics these liberals want to espouse, they need to leave our country.  I’m telling you folks — if this is who has control of our country now, it won’t be long before the America we know and love  will be gone (if it’s not already).  For the first time in my life, I’m genuinely scared of what is to come.  Pray, folks.  Pray for our country — that the People of this nation will wake up and rise up and take the country back.

Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. 4 And I prayed to the LORD my God, and made confession, and said, “O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments, 5 we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments. 6 Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land. 7 O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face, as it is this day—to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and those far off in all the countries to which You have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against You.

– Daniel 9:3–7

Hoodwinked From Their Principles

I think this quote applies to what is going on in our nation today.  I just hope the latter sentence is true.

Our fellow citizens have been led hoodwinked from their principles by a most extraordinary combination of circumstances.  But the band is removed, and they now see for themselves.

Thomas Jefferson to John Dickinson, 1801

Un-American?

I am utterly and completely disgusted with politicians.  If you haven’t been living under a rock lately, then you know about the passionate discourses that have been happening at town hall meetings around the nation on Obamacare.  Well, according to Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer, the people that have been asking questions at the town hall meetings have been acting in an “un-American” way.

However, it is now evident that an ugly campaign is underway not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue,” the two leaders write. “These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.

This is straight from an op-ed essay the two wrote, published by USA Today.  I’m sorry, but I think they’re living in an Alice-in-Wonderland world.  Shoving a healthcare reform bill, that no one has completely read and is socialistic at best down the throats of The People, is un-American.

This discourse is the epitome of what our country is about — everyday people being passionate about what is happening in Washington and what will affect them directly.  Never in my lifetime has this happened.  I’m glad to see people standing up for what they believe in and not taking what their “representatives” say at face value.  The politicians need to be knocked off their high horse and brought back down to reality.  They’ve been living in their own dream world for far too long.

Personally, I would like to see GOOOH(Get Out Of Our House) succeed in getting every single politician out of Washington and replaced with average people that will have the Nation’s best interests at heart, people who won’t be on their own “benefits package” or trying to secure their own personal Gulfstreams to fly around in.

It’s about time for a real change — not a “Change to Socialism” that Obama has been promising to do.

Starting from now

It’s been over a month since my last post.  With the state of our nation to things going on at work, I just haven’t found the time to sit down and jot down my thoughts.  I suppose I have just become so disgusted with our government and politicians that I found myself with my mouth and mind wide open, but nothing coming out…I am that frustrated.

I’m sick of our President sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong (à la “Gates-gate”).  I’m also sick and tired of him trying to push on ordinary Americans his rediculous “Obamacare” that isn’t going to do anything but further bankrupt our country and turn citizens into Obamabots.  But of course, that’s what he wants.   He wants people to NOT be self-sufficient, but to rely on the government for anything from toothpaste to toupees to Tylenol.

I just listened to an interesting clip of Fred Thompson’s show where he interviewed a woman by the name of Betsy McCaughey, former lieutenant governor of New York.  She had just read the House “Obamacare” bill, which will deny health care to the elderly.  It’s almost Soylent Green come true — the only thing the big “G” isn’t doing is turning the elderly into little green wafers.   She said that the bill makes it mandatory that people in Medicare have to go through a counseling session every five years that teaches them how to end their life sooner.  How crazy is this??

We must stop this crazy, out-of-control, runaway Government train.  This is enough to make my eyes pop out of my head!
