Sometimes I love Photoshoppers.
Yesterday was a great day for the conservative beliefs. The U.S. House of Representatives Republicans and 11 Democrats took a stand for what they believe in and what their constituents believe in. Smaller government, less wasteful spending. The $850 billion - BILLION — measure may have passed, but at least the liberals and the American people know where the conservatives stand.
I would like to take the time right now to personally thank my representative, Democrat Gene Taylor, for taking a stand for what South Mississippi believes in. I truly respect you, and you have done so much for your constituents, even when it wasn’t popular or what the rest of your party voted for. Thank you for not towing the party line, and caving to political peer pressure. I haven’t always agreed with you, but I respect you and I thank you. Our government needs more representatives like you.
The first chapter and first premise that Phil Valentine discusses is that America is a good nation. One of the first sentences in the chapter is one of my favorites:
“A good nation is not measured by its military strength or its size. A good nation is, in short, a nation that is generally a positive force in the world.” America has given so much to the world; What we’ve given far outweighs our mistakes.
Back on Sunday I said that I would start a new series of posts dealing with conservatism based on Phil Valentine’s book, The Conservative’s Handbook. I don’t think a person can fully grasp why a conservative believes what he or she believes until you understand where conservatism came from.
