Obama: Being an American is not about “blood or birth”

Umm…What???  That’s exactly what Obama said in his speech today on immi­gra­tion reform.

Being an Amer­i­can is not a mat­ter of blood or birth,  it’s a mat­ter of faith.  It’s a mat­ter of fidelity to the shared val­ues that we all hold so dear.  That’s what makes us unique.  That’s what makes us strong.  Any­body can help us write the next great chap­ter in our history.

Well, I can see where he was try­ing to go with this:  Any­one and every­one is wel­come here, and peo­ple of all dif­fer­ent back­grounds who hold the ideals of free­dom and lib­erty dear is what makes our coun­try unique in the world.  I get this state­ment, and I agree with that sentiment.

How­ever, there is one lit­tle issue that wasn’t addressed here.  It’s called the Con­sti­tu­tion, and more specif­i­cally, the four­teenth amend­ment:

Sec­tion 1. All per­sons born or nat­u­ral­ized in the United States, and sub­ject to the juris­dic­tion thereof, are cit­i­zens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the priv­i­leges or immu­ni­ties of cit­i­zens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any per­son of life, lib­erty, or prop­erty, with­out due process of law; nor deny to any per­son within its juris­dic­tion the equal pro­tec­tion of the laws.

So, you see, it is a mat­ter of blood and birth.  It is a mat­ter of the rule of law, which the Pres­i­dent swore to pro­tect, pre­serve, and defend.  Like I have said before:  It’s not legal immi­gra­tion that’s the issue here.  It’s ille­gal immi­gra­tion.  (For those of you who don’t know what that is — it’s where you have peo­ple com­ing over the bor­der from either Canada or Mex­ico with­out going through Immi­gra­tion and Cus­toms Enforce­ment — and staying.…and staying.…and staying.…and never apply­ing for citizenship.)

A nation with­out laws and bor­ders is not a nation — it’s anar­chy.  And appar­ently that is what Obama, his admin­stra­tion, and the Demo­c­ra­tic Party believe in.

Obama’s First Oval Office Speech: We need cap and tax!

Good morn­ing, folks.   As I lis­tened to Obama’s speech (full text here) last night about the oil spill,  I became more wor­ried than I have ever been before.  Instead of reas­sur­ing the peo­ple of the Gulf Coast, where I call home, that the cap­ping of the Deep­wa­ter Hori­zon well and clean­ing up the oil spill were top pri­or­ity, Obama decided to push for green energy leg­is­la­tion.  He decided to play pol­i­tics as usual and give a pub­lic relations/political speech instead of a lead­er­ship speech.

As the pres­i­dent started his speech, emo­tion was nowhere to be found.  It started out sound­ing like a professor’s lec­ture — bor­ing and monot­o­nous.  Then, as he started speak­ing about the clean, renew­able energy he wants for this coun­try, he became more ani­mated.  This is what he really wants for the coun­try.  Charles Krautham­mer summed it up per­fectly when he said that Obama is not a “clean-up guy” — he’s a “dreamer”.

This state­ment by Obama will be the defin­ing state­ment of this cri­sis, and his pres­i­dency:   “And sadly, no mat­ter how effec­tive our response is, there will be more oil and more dam­age before this siege is done.”

In his speech, Obama said the fol­low­ing regard­ing green energy: 

For decades, we’ve talked and talked about the need to end America’s century-long addic­tion to fos­sil fuels. And for decades, we have failed to act with the sense of urgency that this chal­lenge requires. Time and again, the path for­ward has been blocked — not only by oil indus­try lob­by­ists, but also by a lack of polit­i­cal courage and candor.

Well, Mr. Pres­i­dent, I have to say that your admin­is­tra­tion just doesn’t get it.  With this cri­sis, you have “failed to act with the sense of urgency that this chal­lenge requires.”  You have lacked “polit­i­cal courage and can­dor” when it comes to this dis­as­ter.  You are sim­ply unable to sep­a­rate the chaff from the wheat.  What hap­pened with the Deep­wa­ter Hori­zon rig was the fault of BP and your admin­is­tra­tion and not the fault of any other oil com­pany.  What you fail to real­ize is that the off­shore oil indus­try is a sta­ple for this region, and the six-month mora­to­rium you have placed on deep­wa­ter drilling will crip­ple not only our local econ­omy, but the national econ­omy as well.

Accord­ing to the Coun­cil on For­eign Rela­tions, off­shore oil pro­duc­tion from the Gulf rep­re­sents 30% of all U.S. crude pro­duc­tion, and deep­wa­ter drilling rep­re­sents 70% of that.  And, com­pa­nies are being dri­ven to drill deep­wa­ter wells because fed­eral reg­u­la­tions bar any more shallow-water and land drilling.  So this knee-jerk reac­tion to shut down all deep­wa­ter rigs in the Gulf to ensure safety may sound pru­dent on the sur­face, but in fact it will do more long-term eco­nomic harm than this spill itself.

Get with the pro­gram, Mr. Pres­i­dent.  Like I have said before, we don’t need a politi­cian for pres­i­dent — we need a leader.  And you, sir, are not that man.

Kick your own @$$, Obama

This is my response to this arti­cle and video — go watch it.

Obama said, just in case you missed it or didn’t watch the video:

I don’t sit around just talk­ing to experts because this is a col­lege sem­i­nar, we talk to these folks because they poten­tially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.

Well, if we look at the facts, it is appar­ent he should kick his own and his administration’s, as he put it, “ass”.

In Feb­ru­ary 2009, BP filed a 52-page explo­ration and envi­ron­men­tal action plan for the Macondo well, just 41 miles off the Louisiana coast, with the Mate­ri­als Man­age­ment Ser­vice (an arm of the Depart­ment of the Inte­rior).  The plan stated, “[it is] unlikely that an acci­den­tal sur­face or sub­sur­face oil spill would occur from the pro­posed activ­i­ties”.  They were granted a waiver from a detailed envi­ron­men­tal impact study by the Depart­ment of the Inte­rior.  (For a detailed time­line, go here.)

Then on April 20, 2010, a severe blowout occurred and the rig caught on fire, killing 11 peo­ple and injur­ing 17 oth­ers.  Ever since then there has been a blame game ensu­ing, with fin­gers fly­ing in every direc­tion.  The Obama Adminstration’s response has been, at best, lack­adaisi­cal and lack­ing focus.  Like Hur­ri­cane Kat­rina did with George W. Bush, this dis­as­ter will define Barack H. Obama’s tenure as pres­i­dent, whether he likes it or not.

I am dis­gusted with Obama’s choice to use vul­gar­i­ties in an inter­view set­ting as his way to show emo­tion.  It is class­less, totally beneath the office of the Pres­i­dent, and is insult­ing to the intel­li­gence of the Amer­i­can peo­ple.  We don’t need you to kick ass, Mr. Pres­i­dent, we need you to leadThat is what you were elected to do.  Bet­ter yet — stay out of the way.  We need peo­ple like Gov­er­nor Bobby Jin­dal and Admi­ral Thad Allen of the United States Coast Guard, who are much bet­ter at being lead­ers, and a heck of a lot more competent.  Admiral Allen helped orches­trate relief efforts for New Orleans and the Mis­sis­sippi Gulf Coast after Hur­ri­cane Kat­rina, and he is prov­ing him­self yet again with this crisis.

This is just another clear exam­ple that this Pres­i­dent does not have the experience, capacity, or deco­rum fit­ting that of a United States President.

Obama to finally make Afghanistan decision

Obama_1We’ve been wait­ing for quite a while now for our Dear Leader to make a deci­sion, yea or nay, to send more troops to Afghanistan.  It appears next Tues­day an announce­ment on that deci­sion will be made:

Mil­i­tary offi­cials and oth­ers expect Obama to set­tle on a middle-ground option that would deploy an even­tual 32,000 to 35,000 U.S. forces. That rough fig­ure has stood as the most likely option since before Obama’s last large war coun­cil meet­ing ear­lier this month, when he tasked mil­i­tary plan­ners with rear­rang­ing the tim­ing and makeup of some of the deployments.

Well, it’s about time.  Since August 30, when Gen­eral Stan­ley McChrystal’s report was deliv­ered to the Depart­ment of Defense, 115 U.S. sol­diers have died in Afghanistan.  (Click here to read the report.)  Octo­ber was by far the dead­liest month, with 59 casu­al­ties.  If you look at the trend for the year, it appears that the insur­gency in Afghanistan has been embold­ened — but by what?

In my opin­ion, the insur­gents have taken the hint from Obama that he’s not that seri­ous in tak­ing Al-Qaeda head-on.  They’ve taken advan­tage of his dither­ing and stepped up the attacks on our sol­diers.  This deci­sion to send more troops should have been made months ago.

Word of the Day v. 2.0: Travesty

This is sort of related to last Thursday’s word of the day:

trav — es — ty [trav–uh-stee], n., any grotesque or debased like­ness or imitation.

This is exactly what the 9/11 con­spir­a­tor trial will be.  The lawyer for one of the ‘jihadists’ said over the week­end that the five on trial will plead not guilty, but will explain “why they did it.”  So, this will be a trav­esty of jus­tice — a trav­esty of a trial.  Every­one knows — well, let me rephrase…Every­one but the Obama Admin­is­tra­tion  knows that it will be a show trial.  Michelle Malkin wrote a very nice arti­cle on the sub­ject, includ­ing a snip­pet of what Obama pre­vi­ously said about the 9/11 attacks.  Let me repost what he said here, just eight days after the attacks:

We must also engage, how­ever, in the more dif­fi­cult task of under­stand­ing the sources of such mad­ness. [Editor’s note:  The ter­ror­ists are mis­un­der­stood.] The essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fun­da­men­tal absence of empa­thy on the part of the attack­ers: an inabil­ity to imag­ine, or con­nect with, the human­ity and suf­fer­ing of oth­ers. Such a fail­ure of empa­thy, such numb­ness to the pain of a child or the des­per­a­tion of a par­ent, is not innate; nor, his­tory tells us, is it unique to a par­tic­u­lar cul­ture, reli­gion, or eth­nic­ity. [It wasn’t the ter­ror­ists’ fault — it was society’s.] It may find expres­sion in a par­tic­u­lar brand of vio­lence, and may be chan­neled by par­tic­u­lar dem­a­gogues or fanat­ics.  Most often, though, it grows out of a cli­mate of poverty and igno­rance, help­less­ness and despair. [Give the ter­ror­ists more money, and they’ll leave us alone.]

Are you freakin’ kid­ding me??  And this man now holds the most pow­er­ful posi­tion in the world now?  Gimme a break.  So it is appar­ent that the rea­son Obama and Holder want to give these guys a “fair trial” in our civil­ian court sys­tem is because they feel sorry for them — they were mis­treated by society…Well, I say “wah, wah, wah”.

Maybe we need a reminder of what these guys have done, specif­i­cally à la Daniel Pearl.  Also, don’t for­get the threat against Deb­bie Schus­sel, a con­ser­v­a­tive colum­nist.  (Warn­ing:  graphic pho­tos in the link.)  Like I said last week:  This is not a trial of the ter­ror­ists.  It is a trial of the Bush Admin­stra­tion, the CIA, and our national secu­rity.  Obama has failed in his oath to pro­tect and defend the Con­sti­tu­tion and the Amer­i­can peo­ple.  He has made us less safe, and I hope this is the prover­bial nail in the cof­fin to his re-election in 2012.  In fact, I hope that this solid­i­fies the GOP win next year.  Most Amer­i­cans (around 80–90%) oppose this trial.  I just hope that per­cent­age trans­lates into oppo­si­tion to his stupidity.

President Calls Kanye a ‘Jackass’

Nice — a war of words between two brothas has just started.  Pres­i­dent Obama has called Kanye West a ‘jack­ass’ for the way he treated Tay­lor Swift dur­ing the MTV Music Awards Sun­day night.

It was tweeted by Terry Moran of ABC’s Night­line:  “Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a ‘jack­ass’ for his out­burst at VMAs when Tay­lor Swift won. Now THAT’S presidential.”

Why can’t the Prez keep his nose out of petty crap?  Is he going to host a ‘Beer Sum­mit’ for Kanye and Tay­lor?  I would pay to attend that one.  More on this as the story devel­ops!  (ha, ha!)

Obama Watch: “My job…”

Here’s the Obama quote of the day:

Since when does the Pres­i­dent of the United States have an oblig­a­tion to any­one other than the Peo­ple of the United States??  I may be mis­taken, but doesn’t the oath of office say, “to pre­serve, pro­tect and defend the Con­sti­tu­tion of the United States”?  Nowhere in that oath does it lay an oblig­a­tion to any­one else.  The “Mus­lim world” did not elect him; the Amer­i­can peo­ple elected him (well, 52% of us, anyway).

This is absolutely out­ra­geous and scary.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want the Pres­i­dent of this coun­try capit­u­lat­ing to the wishes of the Mus­lim world for their “accep­tance”.  Most of the peo­ple over there want us dead because we’re “infi­dels” to them.  Why should we care what they think of us?

The fact that our Pres­i­dent would use a Mus­lim tele­vi­sion out­let as his first Pres­i­den­tial inter­view begs more questions.
