Yesterday the 12th Annual Cruisin’ the Coast began in Gulfport.  In case you don’t know what Cruisin’ the Coast is, it’s a week-long event where classic car owners get together, show off their pride-‘n-joys to the general public, and pose for pictures.  It’s a free event, and everyone is welcome.

Here’s an interesting statistic:  CtC started with on 396 cars in 1996.  In 2004, the year prior to Hurricane Katrina, 5,300 classic cars were involved.

If you’re in the area this week, stop by and check out the antique cars and eat some good cookin’.  You’re sure to have a good time.

Local Artists Perform at French Blues Fest

This is unbelievable. I had no idea that my hometown had a blues band. But apparently it does:

Lucedale-based blues-rock act 3 Karat Diamond (Garrett Pitts/guitar,
Clay Parker/Drums and Ian Mallett/bass) recently returned from a
whirlwind blues tour of France for the annual Blues in Chedigny music
festival. Their trip was part of a cultural exchange made possible
through the village of Chedigny, France and the Shed BBQ and Blues
Joint in Ocean Springs.

The group won a competition at The Shed BBQ back in April, when they blew away the competition with their rendition of Cream’s “Crossroads”. The exchange was set up by Pierre Louault, mayor of Chedigny, and Hazel Turner, widow of great blues legend Big Joe Turner. To read more of the article, go here.

Way to go, guys. You have brought positive recognition to our little hamlet. I look forward to hearing you live one day — perhaps next weekend at the “5th Ever ShedHed Blues Fest” on September 20.

Here’s the band performing “Red House” at the Chedigny festival:
