UPDATE (9:45 a.m.):  Pierce County Sheriff’s Office says that the suspect was not in the home they surrounded…More as the story develops.

Four police officers from the Seattle suburb of Lakewood were slain Sunday when they were attacked unprovoked at a local coffee shop.  The four officers are:

renningerSergeant Mark Renninger, 39, with 13 years of law enforcement experience.  He is survived by a wife and three children.

Michelle Malkin has been covering this story extensively, and so has The Other McCain.  My prayers are with these families.

Nine children were rendered parentless by a soul-less thug in less than five minutes.  The police have surrounded a house in Seattle with the cop killer inside — word is he’s wounded and possibly dead.  I hope it’s the former and not the latter.   This guy — Maurice Clemmons - deserves to suffer tremendously for what he’s done.

But then again, if he’s dead, he’s already burning.

Clemmons has a long, long rap sheet — one that goes back all the way to Arkansas when Mike Huckabee was governor.  MM has the whole backstory on this guy, as well as Huck’s unnecessary commutations and clemencies that resulted in Clemmons being set free…If his 95-year sentence had not been commuted, it’s very possible this shooting would never have taken place.
