This caught my attention this morning. Barack has picked Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren to lead the invocation at his inauguration ceremony on January 20.
If you will recall, Rick Warren stayed pretty much neutral during the election cycle, and invited both John McCain and Barack Obama to his church for a televised forum. Warren asked some forthright questions also. But not everyone is happy with his pick of Warren.
The president of the so-called Human Rights Campaign, Joe Solomnese, sent a rather nasty letter to Obama calling his choice of Warren a “genuine blow” to the gay and lesbian community. Here’s a quote from Mr. Solomnese:
We feel a deep level of disrespect when one of the architects and promoters of an anti-gay agenda is given prominence and the pulpit of your historic nomination.
And a California gay rights activist, Rick Jacobs, calls it a “huge mistake”. Furthermore, Washington Blade editor Kevin Naff calls it “Obama’s first mistake.”
All I have to say is: Good. I’m glad they’re angry. I’m glad they’re ‘offended’. I’m offended every day when I hear of a case where they are trying to push their agenda on a majority of Americans who see homosexuality as wrong. I’m offended when I hear of kindergarten teachers and school systems trying to teach five– and six-year-olds that two daddies or two mommies is ‘normal’. Society has no place indoctrinating children — it is the parents’ place to teach them what is right and what is wrong.
Now don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate homosexuals. In fact, I don’t hate anyone (not even a liberal — haha). I hate the acts they are committing. I hate their lifestyle. And so does God. He detests it. Leviticus 20:13 says the following:
If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them.
Rick Warren is not the only pastor out there who is against homosexuality. If a pastor is a true pastor, he is going to be against it. The gay/lesbian community would be angry with any choice. So get over it.
And to Obama: Thank you. You made a good choice. I’ll actually applaud you on this.
