Back to the basics of blogging

I’m going to do it.  I’m going to get back on the blog bandwagon.  The past few months I have taken somewhat of a sabbatical from blogging.  I haven’t written a new blog post since June until the other day when I started EricLee.us.  My previous blog, A Pound of Thoughts, has taken a lot of neglect lately.  So if I haven’t been blogging, then just what the heck have I been doing?

Well, I ventured into the world of World of Warcraft.  I let it “suck me in”.  And, like other things I’ve tried, I got so involved with it that I ended up burning out on it.

I have vowed to learn how to not let myself get so involved with something that is not that important, like gaming, to the point where it takes away from the things that are most important.  I have decided to re-structure my priorities.  And now, I’m jumping back on the “blog bandwagon”.  Watch out, blogging world!

My first goal is to learn to become a more effective blogger.  I attended WordCamp Dallas earlier this year for that one purpose.  Have I implemented anything I’ve learned?  One word – Nope.   That changes now.

My second goal follows close on the heels and is related to my first goal – increase readership.  Once I learn how to blog more effectively, the readership should increase.  However, that won’t increase the readership all by itself.  What good is good blogging if no one knows you’re there?  So, it will also take a little bit of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and some good ‘ole advertising.  (If you wanna tell people about me, go ahead. I don’t mind! )

My final goal is to learn more about WordPress plugins.  I think this goal is a little further down the road, though.  I want to be able to create my own plugins for the WordPress world; but as of right now, time is the major constraint.  I simply don’t have enough of it.  So if anyone out there knows how to quickly get me off the ground and running with WP plugin creation, feel free to drop me a line!

I’m looking forward to getting back to blogging.  The break felt good, but I feel that I still have some contributions to make.  And I want the world to ”hear” my voice.   Shall we begin this journey together?
