Back to the basics of blogging

I’m going to do it.  I’m going to get back on the blog band­wagon.  The past few months I have taken some­what of a sab­bat­i­cal from blog­ging.  I haven’t writ­ten a new blog post since June until the other day when I started EricLee.us.  My pre­vi­ous blog, A Pound of Thoughts, has taken a lot of neglect lately.  So if I haven’t been blog­ging, then just what the heck have I been doing?

Well, I ven­tured into the world of World of War­craft.  I let it “suck me in”.  And, like other things I’ve tried, I got so involved with it that I ended up burn­ing out on it.

I have vowed to learn how to not let myself get so involved with some­thing that is not that impor­tant, like gam­ing, to the point where it takes away from the things that are most impor­tant.  I have decided to re-structure my pri­or­i­ties.  And now, I’m jump­ing back on the “blog band­wagon”.  Watch out, blog­ging world!

My first goal is to learn to become a more effec­tive blog­ger.  I attended Word­Camp Dal­las ear­lier this year for that one pur­pose.  Have I imple­mented any­thing I’ve learned?  One word — Nope.   That changes now.

My sec­ond goal fol­lows close on the heels and is related to my first goal — increase read­er­ship.  Once I learn how to blog more effec­tively, the read­er­ship should increase.  How­ever, that won’t increase the read­er­ship all by itself.  What good is good blog­ging if no one knows you’re there?  So, it will also take a lit­tle bit of SEO (Search Engine Opti­miza­tion) and some good ‘olé adver­tis­ing.  (If you wanna tell peo­ple about me, go ahead. I don’t mind! )

My final goal is to learn more about Word­Press plu­g­ins.  I think this goal is a lit­tle fur­ther down the road, though.  I want to be able to cre­ate my own plu­g­ins for the Word­Press world; but as of right now, time is the major con­straint.  I sim­ply don’t have enough of it.  So if any­one out there knows how to quickly get me off the ground and run­ning with WP plu­gin cre­ation, feel free to drop me a line!

I’m look­ing for­ward to get­ting back to blog­ging.  The break felt good, but I feel that I still have some con­tri­bu­tions to make.  And I want the world to “hear” my voice.   Shall we begin this jour­ney together?
